Monarchs Put on a Show Against the Brandon Wheat Kings

On Friday January 25th, the U17 Midget Prep Monarchs took to the ice against the out of town Brandon Wheat Kings at the BellMTS Iceplex.  Both the Wheat Kings and the Monarchs were ready to go for the opening puck drop and both teams created great scoring chances in the opening half of the period.  It wasn’t until the midway point of the first period that the Monarchs Joey Bielik was able to open the scoring and put his team up by a score of 1-0.  Not even thirty seconds later Bielik was able to find the back of the net again for his second goal of the night.  With Brandon frustrated after two quick goals, their anger boiled over just minutes later sending the Monarchs to the power play.  This time Joey’s brother David Bielik snapped the twine before the end of the first period and the lead was 3-0.

With Brandon searching for answers to the Monarchs scoring run, they tried to strike quickly in the second period.  The Wheat Kings were able to execute that plan and put one past the Monarchs goalie Harrison Rogers courtesy of Dalton Andrews which cut the Monarchs lead. With the game now 3-1 and feeling the momentum swinging in their favour, the Wheat Kings tried to capitalize but the Monarchs weathered the storm and kept their 2-goal lead.  Just past the midway point of the second period, the Monarchs’ Declan Curtis was able to restore their 3-goal lead and the second period ended with the Monarchs up on the Wheat Kings by a score of 4-1.

Down 3 goals, the Wheat Kings needed to find a way to crack the Monarchs goaltender, Harrison Rogers, if they wanted to stay in this game.  The Monarchs had a different plan though.  Thirty seconds into the third period, the Monarchs Nathan Stewart scored a goal which triggered an onslaught of Monarchs goals.  On the power play, Anton Urinski was the next Monarch to put one past Bandon net minder Tyson Gregory making the score 6-1 at this point.  The Wheat Kings were able to find a little relief with a power play goal from Darrien Perreault.  The Monarchs then responded with 4 unanswered goals of their own with two coming from Hayden Forest, one from Ryland Heuging, and another one from David Bielik.  The game ended with the Monarchs dominating the Wheat Kings by a score of 10-2.
