The Sharks look for their first win of the season against the second place Monarchs

With the first major snow fall hitting Winnipeg, the stands were full of eager fans ready to watch some hockey.  Both teams came out with their ‘guns a blazing’ making for an exciting first period full of chances for each team to get onto the score board.  The Monarchs controlled possession of the puck near the midway point of the period, hemming the Sharks in their zone.  This possession led to a flurry of in zone chances with the Monarchs Peter Magus giving them a 1-0 lead.  This lead lasted until the Sharks tied things up on an odd man rush.  Sharks forward Hayden Chaloner ripped the puck right under the bar ending the period with both teams locked up at 1 goal apiece.

Both teams came out for the second period pushing to get the next goal.  The Sharks struck first in the early minutes of the period with forward Mason Dubberley sliding one into the net putting the Sharks up by a score of 2-1.  Play continued with the Monarchs pushing to get the equalizing goal.  Just a few minutes later the Monarchs search for a goal came to an end with Kai Elkie getting his second goal of the season.  Both teams continued to play a physical game and buzz around the ice with many opportunities to score being created by each team.  It isn’t until the Monarchs Nathan Morrison gets the puck on his stick that a goal is scored, putting his team up by a score of 3-2 at the end of the second period.

The Sharks, not backing down from a challenge, play the third period seeking some revenge.  With play going from end to end, the Sharks are able to catch an odd man rush into the Monarchs zone near the midway point of the period.  There was no mistake made by the Sharks who are able to capitalize on the chance with Jack Kabaluk snapping the puck past Monarchs net minder Tristan Vary.  Once again the game is tied up, 3-3.  With the Sharks riding an emotional wave they sustain pressure against the Monarchs creating a flurry of chances.  This wave of energy pays off in another Sharks goal from the stick of Mason Dubberley putting them up 4-3, and spelling and early exit from the game for Monarchs goaltender Tristan Vary who is replaced by Nate Grant.  With only a few minutes left to play the Monarchs elect to pull their goalie for the extra attacker but the Sharks are able to buckle down in their zone and prevent the Monarchs from scoring an equalizing goal giving them a 4-3 upset victory over the Monarchs.
