With the U17 Prep season under way the Hawks took on the Warriors at the Seven Oaks Complex on Sunday October 21st.  The game started off physical and that theme carried through the whole game.  With the physical battle in full force the Warriors were able gain an edge over the Hawks and strike first with a goal from Brandon Slobozian.  The battle between the two teams intensified and tempers started to boil over with the Warriors giving the Hawks a power play that would turn out to be deadly.  With a blast form the half wall the Hawks Logan Clarke found the back of the net.  The rest of the period carried on with the same tone and ended with both teams knotted at one goal each.

The Warriors came out hungry to start the second and were able to strike under two minutes into the period when Connor Davis of the Warriors put one past the Hawks goalie Carter Ullett to take a 2-1.  The Hawks took exception to this goal and struck back quickly with a goal of their own.  Dante Staples found the twine and evened up the score at 2 goals each.  The physicality from the first period continued on and continued to raise the intensity of the game.  This intensity once again leads to a power play, but this time it was the Warriors who benefitted by pouncing and making the Hawks pay with Brandon Slobozian’s second goal of the game.  The second period ends with the Warriors leading the Hawks by a score of 3-2.

With the Hawks trailing they needed to step it up in the third to try and win or send the game to overtime.  The Hawks caught a break with the Warriors having a hard time staying out of the penalty box.  With the Warriors spending a majority of the third period in the penalty box, the Hawks were not able to score on any of their power plays.  With time in the game winding down the Hawks needed to score to extend the game.  With just under 2 minutes left, the Hawks pull their goalie for the extra attacker.  The Hawks were able to pin the Warriors in the defensive zone and off of a point shot a scramble broke out with everyone on the ice buzzing around. Through the huge group of players around the net poking at the puck, Kolden Schwenzer was able to slide the puck behind Michael O’Sullivan the Warriors goalie.  With everything tied up at 3 goals each overtime was needed.

The 3 on 3 overtime started and right away it turns into a track meet with each team going end to end.  Both teams had their chances throughout the overtime period but the Hawks are able to convert.  Hawks forward Jordan Donald put one behind the Warriors goaltender to end the sudden death period and giving the Hawks a 4-3 win.
