How Schools Are Keeping Young Athletes Safe

As concerns grow over the safety and long-term effects of children playing football, basketball and many more sports, many school districts and youth sports organizations across the Southern Tier are evolving to meet those worries.

Many youth leagues and school districts now place a greater emphasis on technique, eliminating certain practices, or even changing the rules to ensure that local children can enjoy the benefits of sport in the safest environment possible. Kyle Sanders, owner and operator of Soccer Shots Binghamton, pointed to children using their heads on the soccer field as an example.
