Three Winnipeg graduates of AAA Winnipeg are playing this week in the Junior Summer Showcase in Kamloops trying out for a spot on the final roster for Canada’s World Junior Team that competes annually during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The three include Cody Glass, Stelio Mattheos, and Jet Woo.
Cody Glass was a late cut last year for a team that went on to win the championship. The center drafted by Vegas with their first pick in expansion will have the opportunity to compete for the first line center after a very successful season for Portland in the WHL.
Stelio Mattheos had another solid season for the Brandon Wheat Kings and is a definite role player that can score and play heavy. The 3rd pick of the Carolina Hurricanes has choices this year to jump to professional hockey or finish his last season with the Wheat Kings.
Jet Woo the rugged defenseman from the Moose Jaw Warriors and the 2nd round pick of the Vancouver Canucks has an opportunity to play with the best in the country this week and show how his abilities compare.
We extend our congratulations to all three of these players and wish them best of luck in their pursuit to become members of the Canadian National Junior team.
