Tuesday nights Championship Game @ MTS Iceplex

The Final series in the City Midget division between the Winnipeg Monarchs and the Eastman Selects going into last night, included two 3-2 wins and a 7-0 win all in favour of the Monarchs.

Currently in the playoff point race, Brayden Foreman (Monarchs) and Maddox Mateychuk (Eastman) lead their teams with 15 points each. Foreman has only played 7 games so far with the bye to the finals. Other big numbers on the Monarchs team this playoffs have come from Aeden Loschiavo and Ryan Brennan.

With the Eastmans backs against the wall, they made the Monarchs pay the price that’s required to be a Champion. Each Monarch heading into a tight space knew that there was a black and white jersey on their back.

In the first period the Monarchs had two goals. Forwards Fischer and Foreman were the first to set the tone early for the match up. The following period had 5 goals total. The Monarchs after the halfway mark had a commanding lead, with goals all from different players in their line up. The Eastman responded towards the end of the period when another big contributor, Kade Runke stepped up with an even strength snipe.

In the third and final frame was an even back and forth. The Eastman putting everything they could into generating chances and receiving some solid back up in the defensive zone from Riley Plett. The Eastman also made an attempt at the 7 minute mark, pulling Plett. However, Monarch net minder Brett Murphy was having a game of his own at the other end, sealing the deal for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs hoist the cup in the City Midget division in 2018. Congratulations City Midget Monarchs!
