Bantam 2 Playoff Update: Monarchs vs Sharks

Game 3 and 4 Recap @ Maples Arena

The Winnipeg Monarchs came into the week with a 2-0 lead on the Sharks in the Championship series. In two games, the Monarchs won 3-1 and 2-1 respectively.

Coming into Monday nights matchup the Sharks have been solid with team defense and goaltending. In their last 4 playoff games the Sharks have battled in 1 goal contests, the latest, going into extra time in the 2-1 loss to the Monarchs.

In game 3, the Sharks hard work began to produce results, dominating the first period with 3 unanswered goals. Playing simple hockey, shutting down offensive momentum produced by the Monarchs.

 The second period saw 3 more goals. This time the Monarchs came out with two of their own, only to have the lead doubled again with a Jayden Michaels Power play goal. The Sharks lead 4-2 heading into the third.

The Monarchs came out in the period, outshooting the Sharks 15 to 4. It was not enough to catch the Sharks, making it 2 games to 1 in the series.

There was no change of game plan for the Sharks in game 3, making sure that the game was played tight on key Monarch contributors. The Monarchs took advantage of a late period power-play. Jesiah Bennett converting a Ryder Ringer shot off the pads of Buenaventura. 1-0 Monarchs.

In the second frame, it was tight playoff hockey once again. The Sharks converting now. Kale Grehan streaked down the wing firing off a well-placed wrist shot, short side, top corner to tie it up at 1-1.

In the third period, it was a goaltender show-down between both Andrew Ness and Ethan Buenaventura. Buenaventura was the stand out net minder of the two, with 52 shots on goal and only 2 allowed for a .962 save percentage on the night!

It was not until the 4th frame that Sam Court put a wrist-shot on net that Nicholas Guberman deflected into the mesh to give the Monarchs the victory. They now lead the series 3-1.

Game 5 takes place at 7:15, Maples Arena on Wednesday Mar.21st.
