The parking lot, as well as the stands were packed on Friday night as both Bantam 2 playoff series jumped into their second game of the playoffs.

The Sharks (2) and Warriors (3) game concluded 5-1 for the Sharks, the final goal being an empty net. Although the victory was not exactly handed over, as the first half of the game was more of a back and forth battle than the score would imply.

The goaltenders saw a combined total of 50 shots in the game. 34 of which were unloaded in the third period. It was not until the last 5 minutes of the second that the Sharks stretched their lead from 1 to 2 goals.

The key contributor to the Sharks victory was Demelash McKay, leading his team with 3 goals as well as 1 assist. The hattrick made him the divisions point leader with 6 points in two games.

In the second game, the Hawks (4) came out with fight and took the lead first (Goal by Nathan Lenoski), but before the fan base finished their cheers, Jesiah Bennett took off down the wing, finishing with a left to right deke – a signature maneuver, silencing the crowd. The Monarchs converted once again a shift later to end the period with a 2-1 lead.

In the second frame, the Monarchs were the first to dictate with a quick goal from Grant White to Josh Fillmon. The Hawks did not reciprocate with a goal, but simplified their game using the body to slow the Monarchs’ fast attack.

Heading into the third with 3-1 lead the Monarchs were in position to solidify the 2-0 lead in the series. The Hawks made a strong case for an upset win in the third, closing the lead to 3-2 and in the 10 minutes of the period was spent primarily in the Monarch defensive zone. But when the Monarchs brought in the “Ringor” (Ryder Ringor that is), the game was out of reach as he scored the Monarchs final two goals, finalizing the game at 5-2 for the top seeded Monarchs.

Both game 3’s in the series resume play on Thursday March 8th, at the Maples Arena. Check out photos of Friday nights action below.
