Monarchs Defeat Yellow Head Chiefs 5-1

On February 15th, the Bantam 1 Yellowhead Chiefs made their way to Winnipeg to take on the Monarchs at the Bell MTS Iceplex.  Having a roster of only 11 skaters and 2 of them being AP’s, the Chiefs had to have a perfect game to try and defeat the Monarchs.  The Chiefs efforts were strong until the end of the period.  The Monarchs were however able to find the back of the net thanks to a goal by Lucas Hutchison which opened the scoring in the game.  Shortly after their first goal, the Monarchs Blake Jones was able to get a goal of his own making the score 2-0.  This score would carry into the second period.

Coming out of the gates hot, just as they ended the first period, the Monarchs were able to strike again on a man advantage.  Kai Elkie scored his first of the period extending the lead to 3-0.  Shortly after scoring his first goal, Kai found the back of the net again with an even strength goal this time putting the Monarchs up 4-0.  The Chiefs would battle back and contain the Monarchs from doing any further damage in the second period entering the third period down by a score of 4-0 to the Monarchs.

With another strong start of the period, the Monarchs continued their trend into the third period scoring just 11 seconds in.  This 5th Monarchs goal was scored by Jack Derrett and seemed to put the Monarchs out of reach from the Chiefs.  Showing that they never give up, the Chiefs AP Rowin Richmond got his first AAA goal past Monarchs goalie Nate Grant for their only goal of the game.  This score carried through the remainder of the period and ended in a 5-1 win in favour of the Monarchs.
