AAA Announces 2020 All-Star Team Rosters and New Jerseys

On January 9th the AAA Council, along with special guests from the media, Hockey Winnipeg, and Hockey Manitoba all came together to announce the 2020 AAA All-Star rosters.  As in years past this year’s jerseys had a theme.  With such a large Special Forces presence in Winnipeg and Manitoba, AAA Winnipeg took their inspiration in order to pay respect to the Winnipeg’s long and storied history with the Canadian Armed Forces and 17 Wing in Shilo, these jerseys were a natural fit.  Not only did AAA Winnipeg take inspiration for the jerseys from the Special Forces but also are including members of the Forces throughout All-Star Day.  Each of the games will begin with a ceremonial puck drop involving members from 17 Wing Shilo.

To model the new jerseys, players from each league and team were in attendance. Chris Hermann (Team Army) with Luke Wagner (Team Air Force) represented the Bantam 2 league, Merik Boles and Jay Peron (Team Air Force) represented the Bantam 1 league, and Cole Younger (Team Army) along with Michael Tanchak (Team Air Force) represented the U17 Prep league to display the jerseys.

At the Bantam 2 level Team Army is comprised of players from the Winnipeg Monarchs, Sharks, and the Eastman Selects.  Team Air Force pulls from the Winnipeg Warriors and Hawks.

The Bantam 1 league is split by location in the province. Team Air Force is made up of the 4 city teams (Monarchs, Warriors, Sharks, and Hawks) as well as the Eastman Selects.  The remaining rural teams (Southwest Cougars, Yellowhead Chiefs, Brandon Wheat Kings, Parkland Rangers, Pembina Valley Hawks, Central Plains Capitals and Norman Wolves) make up Team Army.

In the U17 Prep league, the Winnipeg Bruins, Eastman Selects and Brandon Wheat Kings make up Team Air Force and the Winnipeg Wild, Thrashers, and Interlake Lightning make up Team Army.

The jerseys pull from elements that are well known from both the Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Army.  The Army jerseys pull from the tactical camo gear that they wear in battle whereas the Team Air Force jerseys pull inspiration from the Royal Canadian Air Force flag.  *Find full rosters of each team below*
