Give this round to the Winnipeg Hawks.
The Hawks ended their City Midget regular season with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Eastman Selects in a penalty-filled affair at the MTS Iceplex on Wednesday night.
The win avenges a similar result back in November, when the Selects beat the Hawks in a shootout in the same arena.
Blaze Bezecki started the game's scoring at the 13:48 mark for the Hawks with his 13th of the season but the Selects would tie it up shortly after. With Blake Da Silva in the penalty box for holding, Bradly Goethals notched a power play marker to tie the game up at one a side.
With under four minutes remaining in the opening frame, Milan Horanski put the Hawks back in front with his 17th goal of the year. That lead would hold until the midway point of the second period when the Selects responded again on the power play. This time, it was Bodley Vaeth scoring with assists going to Alex Joyal and Owen Loyola.
The Hawks would take a lead to the dressing room again after another late period goal. This time, Adam Thurlbeck beat Eastman goaltender Mason Swerdyliak with under a minute to go, giving Winnipeg a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.
In the third, the Selects would tie it up with another power play goal. Mikael Berard would notch his fifth goal of the season when he slipped it past Christian Henry with seven minutes to go. That would cap the scoring in regulation and the game would head to a shootout but unlike in November, it would be the Hawks who would emerge victorious as they improved to 12-20-2-2 on the season.
Eastman went 3-for-8 on the power play while the Hawks couldn't convert on any of their seven opportunities.
