Game of the Week: Monarchs 8, Cougars 0 - Bantam 1

A six goal second period outburst helped push the Winnipeg Monarchs to an 8-0 win over the South West Cougars in Bantam 1 Division action on Sunday.
Tyler Campbell scored twice for the Monarchs, who sit atop the Bantam 1 East Division with an impressive 29-1 record. Meanwhile, Southwest dropped to 14-16-0-1, good for second place in the Bantam 1 West Division behind the Parkland Rangers.
After a scoreless first period, Stelio Mattheos streaked down the wing and scored his 49th goal of the season to open the scoring 2:17 into the second period. Then off the center ice faceoff, the Monarchs broke out on a 2-on-1, where Marco Mazza fed Brennan Ostir to make it 2-0.
The Monarchs kept it coming early in the period. At 3:19, Campbell walked around the Cougars defence and slid it under Rylan Rommelaere then a minute later, Noah King's wrist shot handcuffed the Southwest goaltender and the lead was extended to four.
Later in the period on the power play, Campbell recieved a great cross ice pass from Mattheos and he scored his second of the game to make it 5-0. Max Martin would add another one before the period expired and Winnipeg was well on their way to victory.
They would strike twice more in final period, including Brandon Marques' 21st of the year on the power play. The Monarchs would finish 2-for-6 with the man advantage while the Cougars came up empty on three opportunities.
The Monarchs will face Eastman in their next game on Wednesday at Landmark while South West takes on Pembina Valley in Morden on Saturday afternoon.
